And speaking of the doors of Paris, check this one out along the Quai des Celestins in Le Marias. (I know the dabble shadows from the tree don't help, but clinking on the photo certainly does). Paris, France; September, 2011.

For decades this sign said White Stag and was a Portland icon. Each Christmas season the White Stag company would install a red nose on the deer and it became known as the Rudolph sign. When someone else purchased the building it was on, the company decided to take the sign down. But there was such a wailing and gnashing of teeth that the city purchased it and leased the space atop the building. But as of last month, the city decided one had to pay to take photographs of the sign. There is somewhat of a precedent in that the Eiffel Tower claims ownership of any photo taken of that icon. But as a 50-year Oregon resident, 22 of those spent living in the Portland area, I just think charging to take a photo of this icon is awful. So I took this without paying. Come and get me, Copper! Portland, Oregon; February, 2013.

Walking through the casinos in Sin City, everything begins to look the same. As a result, memory doesn't serve us well in remembering exactly where this salon was, but it's likely it was either the MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay. In any case, it was an elegant entry. (Click the photo for more detail) Las Vegas, Nevada; October, 2012.

We began the week with a shot taken at the home of one of the most famous latter-day architects, so we'll end with something more ancient: the flying buttresses of Cathedrale Notre Dame at night, an excellent example of true gothic architecture. Paris, France; September, 2009.
