Being in control

Being in control suggests an attitude of individualism and self-sufficiency. It assumes an influence that is not typically borne out by experience. A need to control distances ourselves from others, and we experience a sterile aloneness, missing the connection and mutual support offered by relationships.

It's nice to be out of control at times though.

There are those who would say one is NEVER in control and that attempting to be in control, or attempting to control, leads to a distancing between one's self and others.

I have long felt that control in ALL cases is only an illusion. This idea may be taken as defeatist and encouraging of helplessness, or not. I certainly feel that I have never had “control” of anything.
