This is a part of the Livingston Manor section of upstate New York, near the Hudson River. In this section of the Manor was a house built by Robert Livingston in 1730, which he named Clermont. This particular Livingston was a patron of Robert Fulton's quest to build the first steamboat. Fulton named that vessel Clermont after his patron's home. (Others of the time called the vessel Fulton's Folly).
