I traveled over the mountains to Portland yesterday and moved through some beautiful snowy areas. As I broke out of the clouds at the top of the pass, I had to pull over and take a pic of these trees, whose tops were being showered in sunlight. High Cascades, November 22, 2005.

The Wisdom of Sayadaw U Pandita

Before hurling insults and accusations at another, one should consider one's own state of mind and circumstances. The tendency to lash out, defame, and belittle is an aspect of conceit. [It can be illustrated] with the image of a person enraged, taking up a handful of excrement to fling at his opponent. This person befouls himself even before the opponent. So, if there are matters on which we disagree, please let us all try to exercise patience and forgiveness in the spirit of the good-hearted.

This is another one of those photos that works best when seen at full size (Just click on the photo to see it that way). Lights of the inner harbor of Victoria, BC, Canada, frame the reflection in the water of the Parliament building. August, 2005.

Don't ask me, because I don't have a clue. All I know is that a few years ago, a single pair blossomed on this tree. Since that time, this shoe tree has produced more and more fruit, although some blossoms do fall to the ground if a particularly big blow comes through. This is almost the first thing you see when entering town from the north. Madras, OR, November 17, 2005.
