The gr8ful grind: January 2009

Let go of anger; It's an acid that eats away the delicate layers of your happiness

The reverse side has also its reverse side

I know what you're thinking, but I didn't do anything to change this photo. It was actually so hot and humid in the arboretum in Golden Gate Park that my camera lens fogged up, creating this effect. (Click on thumbnail for more detail) San Francisco, California; January, 2008.

Leafless trees (and a leafed Madrone) stand stark against the fog on a recent weekend morning. (Click on thumbnail for more detail) Milwaukie, Oregon; January, 2009.

Trail Blazers fans sitting directly behind the basket attempt to distract the free throw of a Golden State Warrior player during a recent NBA game. Free throw made. Blazers won. January, 2009; Portland, Oregon.

Is it cold where you are? Well, it's well below freezing here with about 6 inches of snow on the ground. I wanted to feel warm. When it's this cold, the mind turns to warmer climes, such as Maui, Key West, or, in this case Sedona, Arizona--one of my faves. So today you get this cabin near the banks of Oak Creek with rock formations in the background. (Click on thumbnail for more detail). September, 2004; Sedona, AZ.

It's a colorful world when viewed through the window of an ice cream-espresso shop in The Pearl. January, 2009; Portland, Oregon.

Lots of frozen fog going on here right now. One of the byproducts of frozen fog is hoarfrost gets on everything, like this bush in the parking lot of where I work. (Click on the thumbnail to get a better sense of this sharp-patterned phenomena). January, 2009; redmond, Oregon.

Cozy little bungalow along the Willamette River. I think this is the definition of trophy home. Why does something have to be this big??? (Click on thumbnail for more detail and to better see the lower pavilion). January, 2009; taken from across the river at Milwaukie, Oregon.

We'll end this week's cityscapes series with a pic of the ol' deck out back. In The Pearl. At sunrise. (Much better detail by clicking on the thumbnail) Portland, Oregon; January, 2009.

Lots of lines, textures, patterns, and colors in this one. I find it amazing that after enduring almost record cold temps and tons of snow, the foliage in front of these condo stoops is still so green. Portland, Oregon; January, 2009.

The entry to an apartment complex in The Pearl. Don't click on the thumbnail, or you might get sucked into that portal with all the lines and curves and stuff. Portland, Oregon; January, 2009.

More for this week's cityscapes theme. Portland, Oregon; January, 2009.

Monday, January 12, 2009

I'm going to focus on cityscapes this week, easy enough since I brought my camera along to a workshop last week in Portland. Most of these will be in the district of the city known as The Pearl. Today's offering, bicyclists make their way to work across the Broadway Bridge. Portland is one of the most bike-centric cities in the US. Below, an Amtrak train arrives. (More detail by clicking on the thumbnail; you can see the contrail of an airplane, and the roof of a car--seems I captured a variety of transportation modes) Portland, Oregon; January, 2009.
