We end our countdown to All Hallows Eve in that spookiest of all places, the Catacombs, filled will thousands of real bones from hundreds and hundreds of real people.  This year AirBnB had a contest in which the winner gets to spend the night in the Catacombs on Halloween. You can go here to see photos of the room they set up. And what IS that smell??? Paris, France; September, 2015.

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the Thriller!

After looking in vain for the Phantom, we moved on over to Notre Dame. But even searching high and low, not a hunchback anywhere was to be found. Not even a Quasi Hunchback. Paris, France; September, 2015.

With thoughts of Halloween when we visited the Opera Garnier, we searched and searched, but alas, no Phantom did we see. We even used our Magic Lasso and cried out "Why So Silent?" but to no avail. We are thinking that we probably lacked that Music of the Night. Paris, France; September, 2015.

Or perhaps for Halloween you might prefer to be one of Davey Jones' crew. Aaarrrgghh! Hillsboro, Oregon; August, 2014.

Although we highly recommend you click on this photo to get a much better idea of the grand staircase area of Opera Garnier, there just isn't any photograph that can do justice to this incredible room. Paris, France; September, 2015.

Day trips outside of Paris are highly recommended just to see what the country is like outside the major metro area. This bucolic little crêperie was captured in a medieval city. (Click on the pic for a better view) Provins, France; September, 2015.

Do you want fries with that? Old car exhibitions are actually competitions and owners usually go all out to make their auto look as best they can. It isn't usual to see displays such as this tray attached to a car window of a 50s rig at such exhibits. Bend, Oregon; July, 2015.

As we begin the countdown to All Hallows Eve, it seems fitting we end this week, and our everyday overview of the city with this view of Notre Dame. Anyone who has walked around this building understands why it took almost 174 years to build, and why it's one of the finest architectural achievements anywhere. Photos just can't really capture that. We didn't see a hunchback while taking this shot, but be sure to check back and the end of the month so see if we did or not. Paris, France; September, 2015.

This is rue Montorgueil, a great place to grocery shop or catch some food in a cafe. It's also quite near Les Halles, which makes getting anywhere in the city very easy. The apartment we rented was about a half block from where this photo was snapped. Paris, France; September, 2015.
