Obviously, I didn't take this one. I can only remember one other time I posted on this page a photo someone else took of me. I attended a soirée last night, and here I am with Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski. (He's not running for anything, folks) June, 2008, Madras, Oregon.

While hiking recently I came across this delicate flower that reminded me of Queen Anne's Lace. You botanists out there might be able to identify it, but I can't. Smith Rock State Park, Oregon; June, 2008.

This guy was about 40 feet up when I used my telephoto lens to capture him. If you click on the thumbnail, you'll see enough detail to understand how little purchase he has on his feet and hands making this climb. Smith Rock State Park, Oregon; June 2008.

On popular climbing routes, there are bolts with D-rings attached embedded into the rock. I got this shot of bolts/D-rings on an overhang by climbing farther up the hill and then using a telephoto lens. More detail by clicking on the thumbnail. You can see the white splotches created by hands covered with climbing powder. Smith Rock State Park, Oregon; June, 2008.

A couple weeks ago my community had a balloon launch as part of an annual celebration and I posted a few photos I took during the launch. This past weekend, another community in the region had an entire weekend dedicated to balloons. One of the more spectacular activities is the Night Glow, in which balloons fill with air and then they all really put the burners on to glow light into the nylon. Here they are filling with air. Bend, Oregon; June, 2008.

So there I was driving along the highway day before yesterday and I happened to look up. Honestly, I have never seen a square hole in a cloud before, Have you? Usually I have my Canon Rebel XT camera with me, but this day I didn't. So I grabbed my iPhone and snapped this while driving down the highway at about 65 miles per hour. This wasn't the convergence of several clouds coming together, but a single, big cloud with a hole in it. I realize it's not clear and crisp, but have you ever seen a square hole in a cloud??????? Near Terrebonne, Oregon; June 2008.

Ok, if you click on this one you're gonna go "Whaaaaaa?" Well, it's Rose Festival time in Portland and the city just gets really happy for the 10 days or so of the festival. There are three parades, with the big one being the Rose Parade next Saturday. However, this past Saturday was the Starlight Parade, which is fun, giddy, and not very formal. Most of the entries wear some sort of lighting since it's at night and most of the floats are really just displays on flatbed trucks. Anyway, this is a pic of the Budweiser Clydesdales. I found this interesting in that the light was dim so the shutter stays open longer. As a result, almost everything in the photo is clear and still except the horses and the wagon, which continued to move through the frame while the shutter was open. Portland, Oregon; May, 2008.
